Practice IELTS Part 3

Below is a practice session plan with example questions to cover various themes.

IELTS PART 3 TIPS TO REMEMBER:

There aren't exactly strict rules for IELTS Speaking Part 3, but there are some key guidelines to follow to impress the examiner and score high:

Focus & Content:

  • Go beyond one-word answers:  Part 3 is your chance to showcase your fluency and ability to discuss ideas in detail.

  • Develop your points:  Use the ORE (Opinion, Reason, Example) structure to elaborate on your thoughts.  Provide specific reasons and relevant examples to support your views.

  • Think critically: Don't just give surface-level responses. Analyze the topic, consider different perspectives, and show your ability to think logically.

Language & Delivery:

  • Show vocabulary range: Go beyond basic words and use a variety of vocabulary to express yourself clearly and precisely.

  • Grammar matters: Aim for grammatically correct sentences, but don't be afraid to use complex structures occasionally. Fluency is valued more than perfect grammar.

  • Speak with confidence: Project your voice, maintain a steady pace, and vary your intonation to keep the examiner engaged.

  • Active listening: If the examiner asks a follow-up question, acknowledge it and incorporate it into your response.

Exceeding Expectations:

  • Initiate discussion: Don't wait for the examiner to lead the entire conversation.  Show initiative by adding your own thoughts and asking clarifying questions.

  • Think outside the box: If a question prompts a specific answer, try to delve deeper and offer unique perspectives or insights.

  • Connect ideas:  Look for opportunities to link different topics or questions throughout Part 3.  This shows your ability to think critically and make connections.

Bonus Tip: While there's no need to strictly stick to a time limit,  be mindful of not rambling or going off on tangents.  Aim for a balanced discussion that covers all aspects of the question within the allocated time.

Remember, the goal is to showcase your fluency, critical thinking, and ability to discuss complex ideas in English. By following these guidelines and practicing with diverse topics like the ones suggested earlier, you'll be well on your way to exceeding expectations in IELTS Speaking Part 3!

  • Use varied vocabulary:  Expand your vocabulary beyond basic words to express yourself more clearly.
