IELTS Sample Speaking Test 1

This test is designed to last approximately 45 minutes, covering all three parts of the IELTS Speaking test.

Part 1: Introduction and Interview (4-5 minutes)

Introduction:

• Examiner: Good morning/afternoon. My name is [Examiner's Name]. Can you tell me your full name, please?

• Student: [Student's Full Name]

• Examiner: Thank you. Can I see your identification, please?

• Student: [Presents ID]

• Examiner: Great, thank you.

Questions:

1. Where are you from?

2. Do you work or are you a student?

3. What do you like most about your job/studies?

4. What kind of music do you like to listen to?

5. Do you play any musical instruments?

6. How often do you go out to listen to live music?

7. What is your favorite way to relax?

8. Do you prefer spending your free time indoors or outdoors?

Part 2: Long Turn (3-4 minutes)

Task:

• Examiner: Now, I'm going to give you a topic and I'd like you to talk about it for 1-2 minutes. You will have one minute to think about what you're going to say. You can make some notes if you wish. Do you understand?

• Student: Yes.

• Examiner: Here is your topic. Please don't write anything on the booklet. [Hands over the topic card and paper for notes]

Topic Card: Describe a cultural event or festival that you have attended. You should say:

• What the event was

• When and where it took place

• Who you attended it with

• And explain why this event was important to you

Preparation Time:

• Examiner: You have one minute to prepare.

Speaking Time:

• Examiner: Please start speaking now.

Part 3: Discussion (4-5 minutes)
